Our Beloved Holy Father, Benedict XVI, has put down the burdens of office, retired from his apartments in Vatican City, and pledged his fealty to the Successor of Peter, whom the College of Cardinals will soon meet in Conclave, under lock and key, to elect. The See of the Bishop of Rome, the Holy See (diocese), has no bishop. The Seat of Peter is vacant. We all await the news of to whom the Holy Spirit will direct the votes of the 115 Cardinal electors. Let us all pray………
Prayer for the Papal Conclave
Almighty God, who willed that your Church be built upon the Rock of Peter, whom you set over the other Apostles, we pray for the College of Cardinals who will gather in Rome to elect the next Successor of Peter the Fisherman. We ask that you guide the deliberations of the Papal Conclave through your Holy Spirit, the Spirit of right judgment, who will help the Cardinals discern who can best lead our Church during these early and challenging years of the 21st Century. Help the Cardinals elect a new pope who will have the energy and strength of mind and body to carry on the ministry entrusted to Peter by Our Lord. We hope that the new pope will further strengthen the unity of our Church and help to make it an even brighter light of Truth and Love for all the people of our planet. All of this we ask through the intercession of Mary, Mother of God, and in the name of her Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, AMEN. (Courtesy of Msgr. L. Bronkiewicz, St. Mary Ridgefield, CT)
Intercession During the time of Election: That the Holy Spirit will inspire and strengthen the Cardinal-electors as they choose a new Holy Father to lead us, we pray to the Lord.
Intercession Upon the Election of a new Pope: That our newly elected Holy Father, (name),working together with the bishops of the Church, may be a champion of the poor, a reconciler of nations and a force for peace and unity in our world, we pray to the Lord.( Just in case!)
The yearly New York Lithuanian Scouts St. Casimir Festival will take place on Sunday, March 3rd, following the 10 AM Mass, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Lower Hall. The Festival will have games for kids, lottery, vendors and crafts, along with a delicious Lithuanian lunch, desserts, and more!

By custom, the blessed Verbos are often brought to the graves of loved ones. There is no charge for the workshop or the materials.
The following Sunday, Palm Sunday, the Lithuanian Folk Art Institute and the Parish will sponsor a Lithuanian Easter Egg decorating workshop after BOTH Masses. Several styles of decoration and coloring will be demonstrated. Children, accompanied by an adult, teenagers, and adults are welcome to take part. There is no charge for the workshop. Donations of LARGE boiled eggs are most welcome. “Margucai” artists are invited to donate specially decorated eggs to the Easter Baskets being prepared for Father Volertas and Monsignor Calise (See P. The 2013 celebration of Lithuanian Independence Day (Vasario 16) took place on February 16 and 17, 2013. The NY Joint Committee, under the leadership of Laima Šileikyte-Hood, organized the two day program, which took place in the Mt. Carmel Parish Auditorium, and Annunciation Church and Hall. Joint Committee Chairman Laima Šileikyte-Hood, opened the Saturday festivities by welcoming the guests and introducing Lithuanian Consul General Sarapinas, who spoke movingly about the progress being made in modern day Lithuania, and about the need for unity among Lithuanian people everywhere.
Lithuanian American Community National Council President Sigita Šimkuvienė-Rosen presented awards to Brooklyn Queens Chapter Past President Vida Jankauskas, current Chapter President Rasa Savičiūtė-Sprindys, Manhattan-Bronx-Staten Island Chapter Board member Gintare Bukauskas, and Laima Šileikyte-Hood, President of the Executive Committee of the Lithuanian National Foundation, for their outstanding contributions to the Lithuanian Community.
After the “Official” part of the program the Central and Southern New Jersey Dance Group, “Viesulas” performed several colorful folk dances, to much applause. After intermission, saxophonist and composer Kęstutis Vaiginis, from Vilnius, and his New York band, New York Jazz Stars ( Keyboardist David Berkman, Bassist Linda Oh, and Ferit Odman, Drummer) presented a program which included some of of his own compositions. Kęstutis, who is very popular in Lithuania, has performed all over Europe, in China, Malaysia, Brazil, New York, and in other parts of the United States. Refreshments were served!
A very special guest from Lithuania, Consul General and Dr. Sarapinas’ granddaughter Lukne, celebrated her very first Independence Day here with us, in New York!
On SUNDAY, February 17, the annual Independence Day Mass was said at Annunciation at 10:00 AM, with several Lithuanian organizations taking part, with their flags. The Mass and processions were organized by Salvijus Kungys. The Mass was followed by a Kavine with light refreshments, coffee, and cake. A brief program, including the singing of the National Anthems and a brief speech by Consul General Sarapinas preceeded the lunch. Father Volertas delivered the Benediction.
Annunciation is proud …of Dr. John Liobe, son of Kazyte and the late Raymond, is doing a two month Fulbright Scholarship stint at Vilnius University as a professor of electrical engineering. John and Vytenis Radzivanas, son of Birute and the late Vytas, were both in Vilnius to celebrate Vasario 16!
Annunciation is also proud…. of our acolytes Martin and Ken Pietrusiewicz, who helped serve the Ash Wednesday Mass at Annunciation.
Annunciation is grateful for… our newly renovated Tabernacle! Annunciation’s Volunteer Sacristan Dr. Algis Lukosevicius and Sacristan Philip Caponegro undertook a serious cleaning of Annunciation’s Tabernacle (which dates from the ‘40s or’50s). They disassembled the entire tabernacle, stripped all the old lacquer off, polished it and lacquered it with 3-4 coatings. The walls were recovered with white silk cloth that Algis had ordered, and a proper “floor”, covered with linen (plus a spare) was created. He also had inside silk curtains sewn as well and installed new curtain rods inside and outside. The lock was “greased” and repaired. While doing this act of great love for our parish, Phil and Algis discovered that the Tabernacle walls had been recovered twice before. (There are photos on the Hall bulletin board)
Dr.Lukosevicius has also arranged for all new Lenten Sanctuary Appointments, which he had made for our parish. Now everything matches…Tabernacle curtains, hangings, offertory table cloth, chalice veil and burse, too! These items will also be used during Advent! A BIG, DIDELIS ACIU to Algis and Phil!
More good news! Monsignor Calise has authorized engaging organ technicians to tune the Mighty Austin! In time for Easter, we hope! Organ Curator Saulius Janusas is already contacting the company that tunes our organ. It costs over $600 to tune our precious, valuable instrument.
KAVINE NEWS: There is SERIOUS need for a few folk to volunteer to come a few minutes early to help spread the tablecloths and cut the cakes so that Pat Sidas, who regularly opens the hall and starts the coffee, can get to Mass on time. The work is easy, and folk always have some fun. Just show up! ACIU! If you want to provide something special at Kavine, please contact Pat Sidas at SID100@SOL.COM so she can help you coordinate your donation. God Bless the KAVINE SET-UP AND CLEAN-UP COMMITTEE. To volunteer to help at Kavine, contact Vida Penikas or Pat Sidas. All you have to do is come half an hour early once in a while to set up the hall, or stay 15-20 minutes longer to clear the tables, fold the cloths, and “wash” the coffee and tea pots. Thanks to the following parishioners who generously made donations to Kavine: The Garbauskas family brought some sweets with which to celebrate Vasario 16! The Jankauskas family provided the Kavine on February 24 in memory of Matas and Eleonora Jankauskas.
There will be a Kovo 11 Minejimas, commemoration of the Restoration of Lithuanian Independence (March 11) on Sunday, March 10 in the Parish Lower Hall after 10:00 AM Mass.
