HE IS RISEN! Exult, let them exult, the hosts of heaven, exult, let Angel ministers of God exult! Let the mighty trumpet of salvation sound aloud our mighty King’s triumph! (Easter EXULTATE from the Roman Missal) HAPPY EASTER! Linksmu sv. Valyku! Our salvation is accomplished!
The Resurrection Mass will be said by Fr. Volertas Sunday. March 27 starting at 7:00AM. BE THERE! There are enough seats for all. The choir is busy getting ready. Dr. Algis and his Altar Boy Crew are polishing the lamps. The lectors are lined up. We are a blessed parish to have such volunteers to “minister” at Mass.
A few volunteers are needed to bring food for the Easter breakfast. Can you bring a platter of ham and cheese? a ham? bread? a cake? rolls? hardboiled colored eggs? horseradish? whipped butter? A bag of mini-bagels? Sign up at kavine, or send Pat an e-mail at sid100@aol.com. Let us “Feed our flock like a Shepherd…………..” If one or two people could come a bit earlier to Mass and help lay the table, that would be WONDERFUL!
HEADS UP! The Lithuanian Scouts Association annual ST CASIMIR’S FAIR (Kaziuko Mugė),
will take place Sunday, March 6. The festivities will begin with the Scouts serving at Sunday Mass in Annunciation Church. Then everyone will hasten to the Lower Hall at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church (275 North 8th Street) for good Lithuanian food, “refreshments”, coffee, cake, childrens’ games, crafts sales, and lots of FUN! BE THERE!
The postponed Parish Retreat will take place on Passion Sunday, March 13. The parish is grateful that Fr. Lukas Laniauskas will come from Chicago for a one-day retreat. He will hear confessions before and after Mass. He will preach the sermon at Mass, which will be concelebrated with Fr. Volertas. When he returns to the Lower Hall after hearing confessions, he will again make a presentation. Make the time to come. It will be good for your soul! Ateitis Youth will attend Mass in a body. Its members will be the lectors. Lunch to follow. Many thanks to the parishioners and Ateitis members who offered to donate food for the luncheon. Following Father’s talk after lunch, there will be an opportunity to make traditional “verba”.
On Palm Sunday, March 20, there will be an Easter Egg Decorating Workshop following Mass. If anyone can donate hard boiled eggs for the workshop, it will be appreciated. Just bring them!
Bishop Di Marzio’s Annual Catholic Appeal has started. This fundraising campaign is DIFFERENT from the recently concluded GENERATIONS OF FAITH campaign. While Generations of Faith collected money for LONG RANGE projects and facilities repairs. the Catholic Appeal is Bishop Di Marzio, coming to us, miter in hand, begging for funds to help him feed the poor, shelter the homeless, provide services to migrants such as are provided through the Lithuanian Apostolate, to assist parishes with religious education, etc. Everyone is asked to give, not a LOT, but SOME. Your small donations of $25-$50 ADD UP, so make your Lenten sacrifice payable to His Excellency, and show your Mercy to your fellow man in our diocese!
Did you know that the good folk at Mt. Carmel run a food pantry? They do! Our dear sacristan, Phil Caponegro, is one of the Pantry’s volunteers. Phil recently mentioned that when the bags of food are assembled, the volunteers like to slip a treat into them…….some mini-candy bars, packets of craisins or raisins, etc. If you would like to donate some of these treats, Phil would be delighted. Just bring them to the kitchen any Sunday and the Kavine crew will see to it Phil gets them.
Members of Steel Wolf will be performing their iTunes/Spotify/Youtube single, “Kur Tas Kugelis?”, at the Lithuanian Brunch taking place on Sunday, April 3rd from noon till 4pm at The Avenue Restaurant & Bar, 71-22 Myrtle Ave, Glendale. The annual celebration of Lithuanian Independence was celebrated February 20 and 21. Sunday, February 21, the traditional Mass for Lithuania was said in Annunciation Church. Father Volertas celebrated the Mass. The parish is grateful to the Lithuanian American Community, which provided an excellent luncheon following the Mass that was enjoyed by all!
